It will go to the windows xp screen and then u see xp trying to run then it shuts down.

If you have the XP CD, set the BIOS to boot from the CD and select the REPAIR options from the CD. That may get you back to normal again.

Just a couple things to find out/try.

First – has any software or hardware been recently installed? If so, you may want to try removing any hardware to see if that fixes the issue. For software, are you able to boot into safe mode? To boot into safe mode, press F8 just before Windows XP starts to boot. If you can get the system to boot in safe mode, then uninstall any software that may have just been installed before the issue started happening.

If the system won’t boot into safe mode, you may have a hardware issue to try and diagnose. If you are getting any specific errors before or when Windows is booting, try to copy the error text and do a search for that phrase on the web. This will sometimes lead to a solution.

If you have any diagnostic disks that came with your computer, they will sometimes include hardware diagnostics (My HP laptop had a diagnostics disk included that I could boot up to check the system). If you have one of these, then try to check the system and make sure the memory or hard disk subsystem is not malfunctioning. If the HDD is failing or the memory is defective, it will sometimes manifest as a looped rebooting system.

Since you don’t list many specifics, it’s hard to point you in any particular direction.
