Before a big storm hit us, I disconnect the power to the computer (HP celeron, Windows98). The next morning, my husband turned the computer on the regular way. Then he remembered I had disconnected the power, so he reconnected and went to get his morning coffee. We heard two loud cracks and smell smoke but couldn’t find where it was from and the computer was dead. We tried to turn it on again but only the fan turns on and nothing shows on the monitor except the color bars. Also there’s a lingering burned rubber sort of smell coming from the fan. The switch on the front of the computer does nothing.
Question: is it only the front switch or something much serious is going on?
