Conecting WinNT server to a Novel client

By inmedia48 ·
I have a system running winNT server and would like it to be able to share resources on a Novel network. The workstations on the novel network are running client32, which will not run on NT. What is the proper/best way to allow this system to share resources on this network and how do I set it up. Details please.

Like just about everything to do with Microsoft software, you have several options. The proper/best way to access resources on an NT server is to log in as a Microsoft client. This require that you install MS Client services on your client workstations. If you installed the NWLink protocol on your NT server, you would not have to install any other protocols on you clients. You would also have to install this protocol for answer 1, but this would only allow you to log the NT server in to one of your Netware servers as a client. There is also an add in product from Microsoft called File and Print Services for Netware (FPNW). This allows your Netware clients to see the NT server as a NW 3.12 Server, without any config. on the client side. It is what it says it is. You get none of the NT stuff like Proxy, Exchange, etc. with this solution. As to which is best for you, that would depend on what you were trying to accomplish, how many clients you have, what platform they are running on, What version of Netware

Answer number 2, installing client services for NetWare is part of the solution. Additionally you can install GSN "Gateway Services for NetWare" If you install this service first, it installs client services for NetWare including NWLINK.. Look inWindows help for config details. Create a group called NTGATEWAY on the NW server and a user then setup your shares.
