Config.Pol

Are their different templates for the policy editor for win98 and 95. I have put a windows 98 on the network which has only win95 computers. The config.pol is not hiding all the settings which have been setup for win95, on the win98 machine, Also will the user.dat file cause problems if logging on either the win98 or win95 as the same user.

I am not sure which 95 policy changes do not work in 98 as all mine do. But haveing the registry changed for an option that does not exist will cause your users/pc's no problems.

I have setup profiles in my own office where there are several win95 and win98 and the results are not really good. Policies only update on some machines(randomly). Anyway the thing that i did to fix it was easy, I used poledit.exe but used the version that came with 98 instead of the one of 95. It works flawlessly. The only problem that you can find after it is that you have hidden too much things to make a proper config later when administrator profile doesn't update. Quick fix for this too, run an msdos windows and from this use poledit.exe (fron win9. It works even if the option to disable registry edition is activated. Good Luck
