Configure a USB flash drive to be a Windows 7 installation platform

By yusduks ·
I followed the instructions on the article "Configure a USB flash drive to be a Windows 7 installation platform" to create a bootable USB flash drive but for window Xp installation. When I tried to boot from the pendrive to install Xp on the PC, I got the message "Remove disk or media device". Can someone help me out pls?

Booting from XP on a USB Flash Drive

by OH Smeg In reply to Configure a USB flash dri ...

Shouldn't be a problem provided that the computer can boot from a USB Device.

All that should be required here is to copy the XP Install Disc tot a Flash Drive without placing the base files into a folder.

So you just open the CD Drive in My Computer/Windows Explorer chose Select All and copy them to the USB Flash Drive.

Then set the BIOS to boot from a USB Device and when prompted press any Key to boot from CD which in this case is the USB Device.

The XP install Process should then start, the only thing you have to remember is that on the restarts that the Windows Installer Requires you Do Not touch the keyboard when you are prompted to Boot from the CD as you do not want to restart the entire process over again.

Thanks for your time...

The computer can boot from USB flash drive and the Xp install disc is already copied to the flash drive without being placed into a folder.

Now during boot, I went to the boot option and select the USB but then a message appear saying remove disk or media device, Press any key to continue...

So why is this message coming up and how can i solve this???

Sounds like a Copying Error to the USB Drive

Or maybe the way that you are entering the USB Boot Option.

One other possibility is if your USB Flash Drive compresses the Data to get the specified size the Compression Utility will be the cause of this as the system can not read it or uncompress the Data.
