Configuring 2 NIC cards

I just got a server with 2 NIc cards. I would like to make one an external nic card attached to a hub so i can use it for email. The other i would like to attach to my internal network so i can have access to the server for backups. the problem is that i cant see my server in my internal network. am i missing something?
