I’ve set up a remote user (over ISDN) to connect to our central unix server for internal and external e-mail. The user has outlook97 and I have configure microsoft mail and internet mail as services for the remote user. Not being on NT we aren’t using exchange, just the microsoft mail postoffice for internal mail and sendmail for external mail via our ISP.
I configured outlook to check for new mail every 30 minutes but found the ISDN line was brough up every 2 to 3 minutes when the pc was switched on and the mail client loaded.
Using a network analyser I found that 2 programs where connecting across the link. mprexe connected to port139 every 2 to 3 minutes and mapisp32 to port 110 every 6 minutes. The latter seems to relate to internet mail and the former microsoft mail.
Any ideas on how I can correct this behaviour?
