Configuring SERVERS

By arehman2 ·
We have bought 3 HP-E800 NetServer.
I want to put 1 as WebSERVER, other as DatabaseSERVER and FileSERVER.

Please suggest as to what should I put on all these SERVERS...including the OS and Applications.

Please send me your comments !!!

Configuring SERVERS

If you want them all to interact seamlessly together use NT or 2000 as the OS on all three, IIS for the webserver, MS SQL for the database and nothing else but the OS is needed for the file server. For backup software use Veritas backup exec with the SQL and Extre server agents

I usually let the purpose and the programmers determine the OS and applications. If I have to support an application written in VisualBasic/ASP, then I'll use Microsoft products all around: Windows2000 server, IIS 5.0, and SQL Server 2000.

On the other hand, if I have a choice of how to build the application, and particularly if funds are limited, I'll use Linux as the OS, run Apache as the Webserver, use MySQL or PostgreSQL as the backend database and PERL or PHP as the programming language to tie it all together.
