Configuring the Netscape Communicator th

By ksponia ·
I am using Proxy Server2.0 for accessing the Internet. On Windows95/98/NT clients I am using MS-Internet Explorer4.0
But also I want to use Netscape Communicator for Internet browing.

So, How should I configure the Netscape Communicator throughMS-Proxy Server.

(pl. give detailed whether i should re-install the Netscape Communicator after installing MS-Proxy Client or anything else, because i have already tried by defining the IP address of Proxy Server in Netscape Communicator's "Preference".)

Netscape was not created equally or maybe MS Proxy isn't, because netscape does not play well w/ proxy. IE is the only browser that is fully capable of using proxy.

In Preferences in Netscape, go to advanced and then Proxies. Manually configure the proxy only filling in the HTTP line with the name or IP of the proxy server machine and port 80. I've been playing with this for the last few days and this seems to be the only way it works.

The previous answer is correct in the way to implement your proxy server. Be aware that you can enter the dns name instead of an ip address(if you have more than one server, different ip's for the same service). Also make sure in Netscape you list the services you don't want proxied in the field below, (in the manual proxy configuration)In our case our local intranet's, we could'nt FTP without switching back and fourth until we excluded it in that field. MSIE does this somewhat automatically. Good Luck,
