Configuring USB Wi-Fi Adaptor but LAN error comes up???????

I bought a USB adaptor for my PC got it set up and was fine until my pc froze and it broke so I bought a second one, same make, model etc, but now it won’t work.

It recognises there is a network available to connect to but won’t connect to it. The is also an icon that comes up saying that the LAN cable is uplugged? I have no recollection of this happening before, and as it is a USB device there is no cable? Is this what is causing a failure to connect? I am using Windows 2000 and have so far failed to come up with a solution.

And yes i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers etc.

Any suggestions advice would be helpful cheers
