connect pc to stereo

By whyaskwhy ·
when connecting output jack to input jack of the stereo, it makes a humming sound on the speakers. There is also a sound mixer and beat machine, along with CD player that are also connected to the stereo receiver. Does anyone have any tips on how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance.

please email any advice to s64u@home.com

Hi your problem is almost certainly a grounding problem ie the chassis of the PC is at a different potential to that of the Hifi you could use a n isolating transformer in the signal path these should be obtainable from either hifi or home cinema outlets this as its name suggest isolates the ground paths and should eliminate the hum you are hearing.

Do you have Microphone connected to your system. If yes, then go into the Window Mic control and mute it and see if that helps. Otherwise as the previous advice check your systems grounding. xoxo - Hope this helps.

Had same problem, Was because the power for the different components had different power / ground potentials (computer is grounded and most stereos are not). If possible use the same outlet to cure this problem or you could ground cases all togather.

BTW it was the ungrounded LDP causing my problem. Ground potential on the i/o between the stereo and LDP was bleeding over to the stereo output.

I have had this problem as well, and grounding makes sense, though a defunk sound card that I'm too lazy to repair may have some effect. I got a splitter that fits into my soundcard and splits into 2 RCA females. One of them goes to the woofer on myPC and the other to my stereo in a different room. It hums if i restart my PC, and I simply unplug the splitter from the soundcard and plug it back it, works fine. Dunno if that helped, but thats my 2 cents.
