Connect Router to Desktop

By ashgsh ·

I have internet connection which comes through an ethernet socket (fixed to the wall). I am able to browse on my desktop through the use of an ethernet cable between the socket & ethernet port in the desktop.

I have a Siemens Gigaset wireless router (SE56 that I would like to set up as a wireless modem so that I use my laptop to connect to the internet.

Is it possible to achieve the above? If yes, how can I do so?

Many thanks in advance for your response. Let me know if you need any clarification.

Best regards

Who's network are you connected to?

They may not allow connecting a router to the port.

You may have the wrong device.

The Gigaset is a combination DSL modem and router in one box.

Sounds like you are getting a straight Ethernet connection.

All you should need is a standard router with an RJ-45 Ethernet WAN port for the internet connection.

I would think a local tech shop would be able to tell you what would work with RDS as the ISP.
