    connect to oracle on windows from linux

    i am having a w2k server with oracle 8.1.5 and another system with RH.9 server inst. I want to connect to the oracle db running in win2k from the linux system. how to do this..?

      Gee, and this is only worth 100 points – should be 10,000.

      Firstly, make sure that the linux and windows machines can both ping each other – just to establish that communication is working.

      I would have the Oracle server set up so that it has a web interface and is accessed through IIS or Apache on the windows machine – it does give this functionality –
      finally, just use your browser from the linux box.

      The issues you MUST deal with include the authentication and security of data on the oracle server.

      I am not certain on the ulitimate purpose for the connection to the oracle. If state, that will give us a better idea.

      Well in any oracle connections, first you will need to enter the information of the Win2k oracle database and IP information into the tnsnames.ora file and give it a TNS name. You can do this by either editing the tnsnames.ora manually or using the setup client.

      Once that’s setup, you could pretty much connect to the db using what ever oracle tools available.
