Connect two separate domains

By sabatogz ·
I have two separate domains I would like to connect.

Site1 and Site2.

Each Windows 2000 box's, both with there own Active Dir and DNS.

Site1 IP range is 192.168.0.0 and Site2 IP range is 192.168.111.0.

What is the best approach?

Press F1 on one of your servers and lookup TRUST RELATIONSHIP ...

yep have to agree with jschein, gotta figure out what type of trust relationship you wanna have between domains, one way, 2 way, transitive and how you want users to have access. Domain A users can but domain b can't or both can or A cant but B can or only power users in domain a and b can and whatnot. That's the best approach.

once you figure that out, creating the trust relationship is pretty easy. AD Sites and Services is the tool one uses to accomplish this and is wizard driven. Just fill in the blanks.

To fix the issues required me to create a secondary zone for each domain. Although you pointed to it being DNS issue, creating a secondary dns was never pointed out.

To Summarize:

I added a secondary DNS on Site1 to point to Site2 DNS Server. Also did the same on Site2 in reverse. Also both sites have wins servers, so I setup both wins servers to replicate with each other. Cleared all wins cache on the severs nbtstat -R an did a ntstat -RR with the wins severs, this helped with the browser list. Removed and reset the trust between sites.

Thx All -

Thank you for taking the time to help answer my question, that I do appreciate.

I'm starting to like the guys that post the "REJECTED" to a simple, easy answer.

1st of all, I can understand not knowing too much about Trust Relationships, but DNS? Hmmm... PRESS F1 on the server.....

I would not categorize connecting two domains together a "Simple" question. Thank you for taking the time to help answer my question, that I do appreciate.
