Connect USB printer from parallel port

By jscarey ·
I have a client with an older Dell Lattitude LM notebook used only for email while away on weekends; he has an inexpensive USB-only printer he'd like to connect. I can only find cables for the opposite arrangement USB computers to older parallel printers. Is there not a cable or adapter for connecting a USB printer to a parallel port on the computer?

He could use a port replicator. They are avalable in usb models as well as customized to fit that particular laptop. I have seen usb models starting at $60 - They will work in any usb port.
I have also seen refubed Lattitude Port Replicators as low as $15.00 at the following site www.compuviewus.com
If you go with the Lattitude model - just make sure it works with your laptop before ordering.
Good Luck!

I didn't find the elusive replicator for the Lattitude LM model with a USB port.

In addition, there are inexpensive USB PCMCIA cards he could get. This may be handin in using other USB devices in future as well (as long as he's running Win98+).

Good luck!

I tried a couple of USB PCMCIA cards, both USB 2 and 1, but neither card was recognized by the Dell. I think they may have required the optional (read: expensive) external power adapter. I didn't want to spend a lot; the printer is a freeby with another computer package. The USB would have been nice to connect not only the printer, but a digital camera as well.

There is currently no changer that will allow USB to connect to parallel port on PC/laptop. I'm afraid your client cannot use the USB printer. cheers, Pauline :)
