Connecting 2 buildings help

By netman2 ·
Hi
please i have a question regarding connecting 2 buildings together.
the distance between them about150feet and decide to connect them using fiber optic connection, also needed that the servers must be connected to the switches via fiber optic cables

what is the best 3com switch to accomdate this solution ?
and can i coonect my gigabit card SC connectors to a switch with MTRJ connectors?
also is there a special cable to link both switches in each building?

thanx for your support.

Connecting 2 buildings help

by MBatty In reply to Connecting 2 buildings he ...

The type of switch to use will depend on the number of connections you need and how much you can afford. It will also depend on what infrastructure you currently have, ie stackables or chassis based. The 4900 range is a good place to start. Try the 3COM web site www.3com.co.uk it has a configurator that will help you decide.

Regarding your server connections, there are patch cables that will allow MTRJ to SC connection and they come in various lenghts. Most cable suppliers will be able to help you.

The Fibre beteen the building will depend on the environment. If you have good duct work no special protection is needed, but you might like to think about armoured cable for piece of mind.
