Connecting 2 displays to 2 PCI ex cards

By mdbrown ·
I have a computer with a Sapphire ATI Radeon X850, 256 MB, DDR3, PCI-E graphics cards and 2 19? LCD displays. I plan to install a second, identical graphics card. From a performance standpoint should I connect 1 display to each card or both displays to 1 card?

1 to each card. I set up a user once with 6 video outputs and than we linked them together to show up as one display (do it under display properties). It looked great!

Depends on how you want to configure your displays.

If you want a dual desktop that is a different picture on each screen then both monitors off the one card will do quite nicely and you'll not notice any performance drop off unless you are a mad keen gamer who wants frame rates around the 26 FPS rate.

For one customer I set up an 3 X 6 array which looked great but it isn't something that the average person would use even though it did look nice but even then he could have got a better result with a projector and screen and it would have been a lot cheaper.
