Connecting 2 external monitors via 1 thunderbolt USB-C

Does anyone have a suggestion?

I’m trying to connect two 60hz 1920×1080 HP 27FW monitors to a Microsoft Surface laptop.

The laptop has one output, a thunderbolt USB-C. I’m using HDMI cables included with the monitors.

I already tried this USB-C – dual HDMI adapter but it doesn’t work:

I think it’s not possible to set the monitors / laptop to 30hz..

I could try an 4K@60hz adapter but i doubt this is right since advertisements aren’t that clear. Or do I need to use low resolution in the laptop to be able to switch to 30hz external?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/connect-surface-to-a-tv-monitor-or-projector-35c3aed4-f6c3-2767-d028-2c8ddbd2ee29 does NOT clear this up as I don’t see which Surface you have.

https://www.google.com/search?&q=usb+c+video+card+dual+display finds some external video cards that connect with USB C but given the model of the Surface is unknown there is much to unravel here.
