Connecting 2 networks

By chirila ·
I have a 4 computers network at home (3 Win98 & 1 Win2k server) and a larger network at work (Win98 statiions and a Win2k server). How can I connect them through phone lines to see all of the computers in network neighborhood?

You can use a proxy service to "expand" your home network to the office. By using Hosts or Wins you would be able to connect via server netbios names. This option you only need one modem and one phone line.

First of all, Proxy server does not EXPAND networks. Secondly, it's LMHOSTS, not HOSTS. HOSTS is used for DNS resolution, LMHOSTS for netbios.

What you really want to know is how to include your home network into your work network, using a phone line. Well here's some suggestions:

Use your Win2K server to dial up your works server and establish a PPP or PPTP VPN connection. Your home network PCs should then use the Win2K server as it's gateway to the work network.

OR Dial out into the work Win2K RAS server (Install RAS if not already) using the WIN98 Second Edition and use ICS, sharing the connection with your other PCs and server.

Good luck..
