Connecting a virgin mobile modem from my laptop to my belkin access point?

I am trying to use my virgin mobile wireless modem to connect to my Belkin range extender/access point to share internet signal. My neighbor had this exact setup and it worked great!! I know its possible I’m just frusterated!!!
