Connecting a win95 or win98 system

By arun_kalathi ·
i've insatlled win2000 in one system and win98 in two systems.i've interconnected these three systems with an 10/100 hub.after giving sharing for all the drives when i access the 2000 system in th 98 system it is asking for a pasword.

but when i create two diff local users i can able to acess the 2000 system.why is that?

the thing which i got confusion is on creating local user in the 2000 system how it is possible for me to acess that in the 98 system?

please reply soon.

Win98 is less secure an Operating System then Win2000. The password that Win2000 is asking for is the network password for the Win98 user to access Win2000 resources. You need to create users in Win2000 that match the computer name of the other computers, then you will be able access the Win2000 resources through Win98 (i.ei System 1 is the computer name of a Win98 system and you create a user System 1 on your Won2000 system). There is not a similar feature in Win98. Hope this helps.

On your Win2000 computer, go to Control Panel --> Users and Passwords --> Add --> and add in the Win98 login/password and the Win98 computer will be able to access the shares on the Win2000 computer.

When you create local users on the Win2000 computer, it does not need security and does not use the Users and Passwords applet. Your local accounts have access to the local shares automatically. Remote machines do not... unless you have specifically granted them that access.
