Connecting a Wireless Modem to my desktop via a wired connection

by d_mariotti . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I just bought a wireless router (netgear rangemax dual band wirless-n) and I want to first hook it up to my desktop via a wired connection (ethernet cable). My desktop is hooked up via a cable modem (time warner). I would like to put my fiance’s laptop which has a intergreted wireless network card but my desktop does not, only a regular network card. Can this connection still work? or do I need a wireless network adapter for my desktop? I was told i didn’t and nor do I want the wireless connection on my desktop, only on the laptop. Just bought the router today so i’m hooking it up tonight. Thought I’d ask the computer experts. thanks!
