Connecting a Wireless router to a wired network?

By Mark Given ·
Hi there,

I have a wired Zyxel router connected to my (windows XP) PC for internet connection. I have now just got a Dell laptop (windows Vista) with a Belkin wireless router (802.11g).

How do I keep my current set-up for my PC, but also connect my laptop to the wireless router to get internet in a different room?

I've hooked everything up and the laptop can see the router, but it can't connect to the internet?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

On your laptop, Go to your cmd console, type ip config, find the Default Gateway, enter that IP into your browser.

Search the options to change it to an access point or to set it up as a "switch" rather then a router.

If you can't access the console via wireless connect to it via wired.

Consult your manual if you have the ability to do this, If you include the model in your next post I will be able to help you further as each router has it's own "Unique" firmware.
