Connecting Laptop To Old TV (RCA)

by :merr: . Updated 16 years, 8 months ago

Ok – I’m having issues connecting my laptop to my TV – I have the appropriate cables. I believe at least , I say this because The Screen briefly Flashes on the TV then goes back to blue.. So I believe I’m missing something along the way here.

Essentially this is the deal.
I have an Older RCA television with Componant cables capable (not HD) however , no S-Video or PC VGA input.

What I’m looking to do here , is use the S-Video I have on my Laptop , Hook it up to an S-Video to RCA (The Single Yellow Plug only Jack) Adapter and plug that into one of my Televisions 2 Available RCA inputs.

However , I can’t seem to get the image on the Television.
Like I said , I know in some manner it’s working I just am obviously doing something wrong.

When I choose to detect or play around with my Resolution Settings (Windows 7) I can see very briefly the image of my wallpaper shoot up on my TV for half a second then Vanish.

If I choose “Identify” Get the big 1 on my Laptop then chose Detect , it’ll show Again Very Briefly 1/2 a second.. 2 on the TV over my Wallpaper.

So , what am I missing here..

I have a nVideo GeForce 8700M GT 4 gigs ram , windows 7 Dell XPS M1730 ; So I know I have the capabilities for this..

What’s the Glitch?(or my glitch)

All Cables are new.
Many Thanks

I should also add , that my resolution does not go below 800×600

Scratch that , I’ve resolved the 800×600 issue however , when I choose to “List all Modes” The resolution doesn’t actually change to what I remember 640×480 is.

I’m at quite a loss.
Thanks for the help from anyone who can provide.
