Connecting offices located worldwide

By Praveena Sarathchandra ·
Hi,

What is the best technology that can be used to connect several retail offices of a company (located in several countries) with the main branch?

Is VPN a good option?

What is recommended network topology for that main branch? The main branch will have few servers, offices and a staff of about 50.

Is star topology ok?

What other considerations that need to be taken in such project?

Thanks

In most cases it's the only way to go.

As for the rest it all depends on what is involved but generally speaking you want Secure Connections between the Branch and Head Offices.

As to what else is involved it all depends on what is available at the branch offices and how the system is configured. For instance having all the data stored at the Head Office and then replicated to branch Offices may be useful but trying to set thing that way if all Data is stored at the Head Office and then sent via the Net to the Branch Offices who do not have any servers would be difficult to achieve.
