Connecting remote screens to FTP network

    Locked

    by ali.j ·

I work for a company with a number of different sites. We would like to set up information screens at each of our sites displaying important information about the company.

Ideally, we would like the content to be uploaded remotely from our head office and automatically displayed on the screens with minimal effort from the employees on site. I.e. the content on display can change at each of our sites without anybody having to do anything. New updates can be sent on a daily basis to a network which distributes these images to the multiple screens. We currently have one screen set up on one of our sites to use as a test run. This is a standard screen with no smart networking capability. Please can somebody advise what hardware would need to be purchased to remotely connect this screen to an FTP and what sort of network infrastructure would be required to send the updates?

Building your own micro-PC based on a Raspberry PI or any of its many alternatives would be the cheapest solution. All you need:
      – hdmi for the screen
      – ethernet or wifi for the internet
      – linux to run the refresh script en show the picture on the screen

OK thanks. What alternatives are there running a Windows OS? We would like to make it as simple as possible to upload content and not everybody is familiar with Linux.

Why isn’t this information on a web site?

By now you know how to create a web site. And such a page can be programmed to reload at your choice of refresh rate.

This way you can display such pages on just about any PC, phone or even a Rasberry Pi setup.

Ensure that you have ftp authentication. You must have ftp authentication, as described in “Authentication for Remote Logins ( ftp )”.
Open a connection to a remote system by using the ftp command. $ ftp remote-system.
      Type your user name.
      If prompted, type your password.
