Connecting to a mysql database

By lawrencem ·
I am trying to connect to a mysql database that is hosted.
Using my Cpanel i created the database and tables and now I am trying to connect to it from Macromedia MX 2004. I followed all the instructions and I get the acces denied error message. If not at times i get the message that my testing server is not pointing to the root.
I check the configuration at it seems fine.
What am I missing?

a) make sure your client has a defined ODBC connection for the database, or that macromedia establishes its own connection.

b) make sure that your MySQL server is up and running and determine what port it's listening to for connections.

c) Confirm your user id and password.

The error you're getting usually means your DB server isn't listening, your machine isn't sending right, or you've got the wrong username/password

Thanks a lot! I tried conmnecting to another mysql server and it worked.
Looks like the mysql server I was trying to connect to was not configured correctly. I now have to get the hosting company to check the configuration of that server or use the hosting where it works.
Thanks again.
