connecting to a site

By mjkqb ·
I'm very new at Exchange administration and I have this delima.

My boss wants me to integrate our e-mail with a site in another organization. This organization is on our LAN. Both organizations use Exchange Server 5.5.

Can this be done?
Wherecan I find some documentation?

You need to create a Site Connector. In Exchange, under File -> New Other, select Site Connector. You then enter the name of the other Exchange Server. You must be able to establish a connection to the other server. You must also have administrative rights in the site you are attempting to connect to. In addition, if the remote site is on a different Windows NT domain, you must have Windows NT administrative rights in that domain.

If I remember correctly a SITE Connector is for sites with-in the same org and will not work going across orgs.

If all you want to do is send messages between the two systems then use X.400 over TCPIP or use SMTP.

If you want trade calendar information or public folder data, then you will need the Interorg replication utility.

If you want to synchronize your Globabl Address List with that of the other ORGs GAL then you will also need to use the Interorg Synchronization Utility.

Using the Interorg tools does require having a bridge for messaging already in place - again this would be either with X.400 or SMTP.

(Please anyone - if I'm wrong then correct me. )Thanks

I am trying to connect to a site in a different domain. I have been trying to use the site connector. Have taken care of all the rights issues. I get this error. "You must specify a server that is within the "XXXX Organization"(our organization) butnot within the "yyyyy site" (our site).

Have you been able to do this when two different organizations are involved.
