connecting to exchange from win2k client

By markp ·
I have remote users running windows 98 sucessfully accessing Exhange 5.5 installed on a server via the internet. I have new user running Windows 2000. I have tried to connect this user, setting up the LMHOSTS file but with no success. What options do I have to connect a Windows 2000 remote user, using Outlook 2000 client, to the exchange server?

if you are not using OWA, then my experience with remote access to Exchange is that I would need to join the Domain or specify the DNS in the TCP/IP settings of Microsoft Network.
it was the same case as when I was using Win98.
i could be wrong.

When you say "sucessfully accessing Exhange 5.5 installed on a server via the internet" what do you mean. Are your clients POP-ing to the server or are they RAS-ing into the domain?

My remote W2K clients VPN into the domain and authenticate. Thenthey can access Exchange via Outlook client. Otherwise remote users can only access email via OWA.
