Connection reset by socket peer

By dgaudreau ·
We are developing an J2EE application using WebSphere Studio Application Developer and WebSphere 4.

Sometime, we receive this 'Connection reset by socket peer' message and I would like to know the origin of this message and what can be done in the application to handle it properly, thus enhancing its robustness.

Thanks.

Is there some error code associated with it?

Check w3schools.com I've some pages downloaded from there regarding the error codes & their descriptions.

"Connection reset by socket peer" is the text of the exception that is thrown when your Java application has a socket connection with another application and the other application closes their end of the socket. This closure may have been intentional or may have been an error on part of the other program; there's really no way to know without more information. I don't think your Java app would be the one to blame here, but you give us little context and no code...

Good luck.

'Connection reset by socket peer' is a message when one of the peers in a socket connection terminates the connection, even as the other peer is trying to send some data. In your case this may be because of terminating the request to a JSP or HTML or Servlet, by pressing the stop button in the browser, even as the server(Websphere) is processing the request. After the request is processed and when the server is ready to send the response, it finds that it's peer(browser in this case) has aborted the connection.
