connection to remote server problem with Vista

by mrblah1978 . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I purchased a laptop that came preloaded with Vista Home Basic and all of my development tools work fine (Zend, Visual Studio, Query Analyzer, etc) However, I cannot connect to the webserver to upload any modified files. In XP, I connected in the following way after connecting via a cisco vpn client:

In Internet Explorer, type in \\192.168.1.142\WhateverDirectory

In Vista now, with IE 7, it repeatedly tells me ‘Windows cannot find \\192.168.1.142\WhateverDirectory

I know the vpn is working fine because I can connect to the actual application in IE and also can connect to the dev db using query analyzer. I’ve also tried with Windows Firewall on and off – doesn’t make a difference. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I don’t know jack about networking lol.

Thanks in advance for your time
