Locked

Console Autolock

By mlivshin ·
I want to have an automatic console lock.

I followed documentation in MS KBase Q310584 for setting up the server to login automatically.

Now I need for a console to lock itself automatically.

Can it be done?

Thanks for your help.

you could set the screen saver to a very short threshold and set that to pasword protected then the server will log on by itself then go into a password protected screensaver 1 minute later.

No, this is no good. Screen Saver wouldn't do it.
I need autolock console on autologin. I don't want to be interrupted every minute. Just lock console after login.

If you operate a Windows 2000 AD domain you can set up a group policy to logoff users when thier logon hours expires.

This is Win2000 Server. I need to autolock it after it boots up and performs autologin.

How about creating a shortcut on your desktop or having it run after the autologin by plaing it in your startup folder?

On an empty space on your desktop, right click and select "New" then "Shortcut".

Paste the following line into the "Typethe location of this item" box.

%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

Click "Next".

This next dialog box will ask for a name for this shortcut. Type in "Lock Computer" or something that makes sense to you. Click "Finish".

Now you'll have an icon on your desktop that allows you to quickly lock your computer without having to go through the process of "control-alt-delete" -> "Lock Computer".

Anna777,
Thanks very much.
I did this command before and placed it in Scheduled Tasks. Completely forgot about good old StartUp.
Thanks again.
