console problem from windows 7 using usb to serial adapter

By mriaz ·
I am not able to console from Windows 7 machine to Cisco ASA 5500 firewall (or any other Cisco device) using a USB to serial adapter. Please share your thoughts if you have experienced same problem earlier and any help. Thanks.

Some of these USB Chip Sets

Are not compatible with Windows 7.

You have to use one that has Windows 7 Compliance listed on the packaging. Even if they list Windows 7 compatibility on the case you have to make certain if it is 32 Bit or 64 Bit Windows 7 that it works with. You'll need a suitable USB Device that is Acknowledged to work with your version of 7.

USB to Serial adapter

Depending on what model of USB to Serial adapter you are using, the problem might be a driver issue. The only USB to serial adapter I have been able to use with most Cisco devices and Windows 7 are the adapters from U.S.Converters. www.usconverters.com
