Constant Freezing of System

I have a Windows 98 Machine and have recently experienced freezing of the system and the clock looses time. This started when I installed the Norton AntiVirus and Norton Firewall. I’m not sure is there are conflicts. From what I am able to see, there are no conflicts when I look in the system folder of windows.
