Constant read of A: drive for Favorites

By dsheppard ·
I am on windows 98 and use both Netscape Communicator 4.7 and Internet Explorer 5.5. In using IE and access my Favorites from the title bar my a: drive is accessed continuosly. I can click on my favorite link and it takes me there but the a: driveis still active. I have not accessed the a: drive for any reason. It seems to be looking for the Favorites file on a 3.5 disk. I have never saved my favorites file to a disk. Where can I check or make a change to correct this annoying problem?

If it's truely something it's trying to look for on the floppy when you access favorites, it's probobly a shortcut placed in the favorites folder. Without knowing what the shortcut is, You'd have to use the organiza favorites or go to c:\windows\favorites and look at the properties of each item.

Just a gamble you may want to to before doing that would be to either disable findfast, or take it out of your start menu so it doesn't start on boot up, reboot your system, check your tasks to makesure it isn't running and then access your favorites. It could be that something was indexed by that utility and it's pointing to the wrong place.

Another suggestion would be to go to the taskbar properties, "Start Menu Programs" tab, and click on "Clear" under the "Documents Menu" heading.

I would also suggest clearing your "temporary Internet files" and "History" in IE (Tools, Internet Options) or Control Panel (Internet Options).
