Continue working for the same employer or change to a field of my interest?

By springfieldcolors ·
Its been six months since i started working at this small company in DC area. The people are good, manager is good, the work isn't I started as a fresher and my first priority is to learn as much as i can over money n anything else. I don't get to learn as much new things as i expected and the job profile is different too(analyst-web development, sharepoint etc..) ? Now I have to decide and let my manager know if I want to continue with this company or look for a job in the field of my interest (networking) with a bigger company ? Could someone please help ?

don't resign without a new job ready

You don't know if a job in your preferred field is available, so don't take risks. But if a suitable job does appear, go for it: follow that dream.

Stay for a year at least, preferably two

Things might change if you ask for more/different responsibilities. Even though loyalty to companies is pretty much gone nowadays, it doesn't do you or your resume any good for leaving an overall decent place for no good reason (in the next interviewer's mind). They might assume the company tired of you after 6 months. Also, try not to burn bridges, you never know where or when you might run into people or their connections.
