Control Panel not responding

By shuff2000 ·
I've got an HP/Compaq nx9110 laptop that seems to be working fine except for one problem. Not always, but usually when control panel is opened it freezes and I have to "End Task" to get out of it.
I've tried running a system restore back to when I originally configured it and I've also updated the bios. I don't see any unusual programs running in the background.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

It could be a corrupted control panel applet. These are files with a .cpl extension. Sometimes applications add applets to the control panel in addition to the standard windows applets.

You could test is this is the case by removing all of them and then adding them back in one at a time. Follow the directions at this link:

Cheers.

Check the drivers for any hardware that may have been added,if not check the IRQ settings and Hardware Compatibility list it could be a conflict that will eventually cause a blue screen to which you then could see what the error message is related too.

Re-install ur operating system. If the problem persists, check the RAM.
