Control panel unable to change display

By jj.vergier ·
Hello,
My two PC's control panels cannot any more change the display parameters of my video card ( TNT2 64 ).
All I changed was taking them to a vacation home we have, and connect them through an RJ45 "crossed" cable ( they're usually connected via a hub ), and connect one of them to a local monitor.
I reinstalled the display driver of one of them, which restored the factory settings, but not the ability to change them.
My GHOST images are a little bit ancient.
Can someone help ?
Thanks,Jean-Jacques Vergier, Orleans, France.

Control panel unable to change display

Hello,
As far as I could understand you only tool your computers to some other location, and attached one of them to another monitor. You didn't have to install the video drivers, maybe only the monitor drivers, but it really didn't matter at all, anyway, you changed the video drivers and probably the driver is not correctly installed. I suggest you to find the correct driver for your video card, install it again and everything should be normal again. The fact that you had them connected to a hub a now your using crossed cables shouldn't matter at all.
I Hope it helps,
Good luck,

@lberto

Control panel unable to change display

by jj.vergier In reply to Control panel unable to c ...

Well, thanks.
Maybe I wasn't precise enough :
- all I did while on vacation was to connect to another monitor (which just caused W98SE to switch to "unknown screen" )
- back home, I wasn't able to change any display parameter any more.
- so I reinstalled my video driver ( a correct one), which did nothing good.
- in fact, I reinstalled my Ghost images, which took me back on track.
- what is troubling is it occured to my two computers at the same time.

Computers are still a bit mysterious to me...
