Controlling NT Services

By frec1 ·
How can I start/stop services remotely without using PCAnywhere software. I've stuck on this issue for several hours now I thought I had it by going in the. Also can I remove a hidden share from a if I'm not at the workstation.

Thanks,
FREC

You did not indicate which OS you are running. If you are asking about NT, you can install the NT Server tools off of the NT Server CD, located in the clients\srvtools\ folder. You can control shared folders as well as services through the Server Manager tool SRVMGR.EXE.
I think that similar tools exist for W2K server, but I am not as familiar with W2K.

You can also use netsvc from the Resource kit. It is command line driven. As far as the hidden share, if it is the admin shares such as C$,IPC$, in cannot be deleted.
