convert fat32 to ntfs

My win xp is set up with FAT want to convert to ntfs. Any downside? i run a command promt use the convert command, and it ask,s for the volume. I dont know what my volume is called. Also i forgot how to use the cd command. when i run cmd it is the doccuments/settings path I need to change it to just C:
