Convert from IDE to SATA

by rghoch . Updated 18 years, 7 months ago

I have 2 IDE drives with Windows ME on the C Drive and XP on the D drive. The Boot.ini file defaults to the D drive to start XP, although I have the choice to go to ME if I need some of the old programs/data.

I have installed 2 160gb SATA drives and made a Raid 1 setup. I made 2 partitions and cloned the C drive to the first and the D drive to the second. They have gotten new drive letters I and J.

I changed the boot order to the SATA drive, and it will boot to ME okay, and it offers the option to boot to XP, but it fails. I presume this is because the SATA partition is not labeled drive d.

I know how to change the drive letters in XP, but the question is, if I change the drive letters from I and J to C and D and it doesn’t work, how do I change them back if Ican’t boot into anything other than ME?

Thanks
