Copy a printer?

By Cazen ·
I have one win98se system with a software "printer" installed and no other software containing the drivers. It must be possible to copy the "printer" to a floppy for use on other machines.? Anyone know the procedure?

Copy a printer?

I am guessing that you want to print on thw Win98SE pc, take the printer output to another PC and use that printer to actaully print, that right?

To do that you will still need to install the drivers on the 1st pc to get the correct formatting. Your Win98 CD will have drivers for most printers. If not on the CD then try http://www.driverguide.com/. Once you get the drivers loaded, set the printer up to print to a file A or C (then copy to A:\). I think Start, Printer, Add Printer will get you started, should ask for the Win98 or Mfg cd. From the 2nd PC, I think you copy the file to LPT1:. I have had mixed success doing this.

You can take the file to the PC that has the printer if it has the same apps (Word, Excel, etc.).If the systems are reasonably close or already networked, you could network them together then serve the printer on the 2nd pc to the 1st pc.

Copy a printer?

Sorry - I should be clearer. What I have is a Photodriver. Very similar to a fax printer except the output is jpg or gif. Since I no longer have the software and can't find anything similar I want to copy the "printer" for use on other machines thataren't on the same network.

You could take the time to identify the exact changes the software has made and try and replicate this on another system, but getting the registry settings correct could be very difficult. I would clone the whole hard drive to the other system and update any hardware drivers that need be.
What Software are you using to PRINT from. One of the members on this site could well point you in the right direction to locate your software or might have the media on disk waiting to email it to you. Give us some details of the software and printer driver as such and will keep my eyes open for a copy.
