Copy Locks up W2K Server

When I copy files from my Compaq W2K server to another server the W2K server consistantly locks up and must be cold booted. Nothing appears in event viewer other than a note that the previous shutdown was unexpected. My backup program also causes this lock up. I checked for excessive CPU usage and interrupts during the copy process, but no clues there. Any one have any ideas?
