copy paste functions disables when I open a vb based program

By vinijamnik ·
I have installed a software for data entry purpose, designed in VB6.0,but whenever I run that program it dosn't allow me to copy and paste.Even my copy, paste options get disabled while using notepad ,Internet explore, MS office or any othe program.Once I close that program copy paste functions work perfectly.I think that is intentionally done by programmer to avoid data entry by copy paste options.How to solve this problem?

Ask the programmer to change it?

I can't think of any other solution.

Um, I can think of a couple of ways the restriction might be broken

depending on how it was done, but, I don't want to find out I just helped you copy somebody else's data...
If copy is disabled on all apps then whoever coded this was clever, but dumb. Personally I suggest you talk to them, maybe they've learnt how to do it properly since they wrote this.

Probably a timer with clipboard.clear running over and over

A nice simple, stupid solution :)

And how to do that?

Sorry, I mean thats probably how the programming is screwing with you

by Slayer_ In reply to simle?

in VB6, there is an object called a Timer. You can set the timer to execute code at set intervals, such has every half a second.
a common command in VB6 is
Call Clipboard.Clear()
This clears the clipboard.
So in this example, a timer, every half a second, would empty your clipboard.
If this is true, you should be able to copy and paste if you were really fast about it.
You can also design your own keyhook program to monitor for the keys "Control + C" and capture the selected content and store it to memory, making your own clipboard.

I have built something similar for work. Crystal Reports 8.5 doesn't have the ability to multi line comment. So I built a keyhook program that replaces the selected text, with single line commented text.

Oh I hope not

I could break that real quick. That's the problem with obfuscation mechanisms, once you know what it is, might as well not have bothered.

There again the sort of nipplehead who would do this in this first place....

Now you got me curious, how would you defeat it? {nt}

Hi Tony,
Thanx for your wise words.Even I thought so and had word with those people,but no use ,they are professionals and didnt entertain me.So I am trying to get help from the professionals like you.

Could try running it as a different user

by Slayer_ In reply to Thanx

That might work. Might need to be a limited user.

No professional

would block cut and paste on all apps from one. It's a f'wit solution, feel free to tell them a professional told you so.

I know there are ways to do it, but I've never investigated how because depriving someone of a bog standard facility in all apps because I couldn't be bothered to find out how to do it properly which probably required at amost as much effort as their fwit solution, just wouldn't occur to me.
Without knowing which trick they used I can't suggest how to defeat it, and because of the reasons why they might have done (even if very poorly) it, as a professional I will not even suggest how it might be got round.
No different to asking me how to crack someone's product, hack webmail, I know a few ways of doing those as well, I am not posting them though.

Try offering them some money...
