copy profile error

By nagy ·
I am migrating NT 4.0 workstations from a workgroup to a domain. I have one workstation that gives the following error when trying to copy the old profile to the new profile.

copy profile error

the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I am logged in to the workstation as administrator. The ws is 4.0 sp5. The profile starts to copy and then errors. I have copied profiles the same way on many other machines with no problem??

Sounds like something is running in the background (perhaps in STARTUP) that calls a file from that particular profile. Check Task Manager and kill all the processes you don't need to perform the copy. One of them is bound to be the one. Clear the SYSTRAY, too.

Good advise above... make sure that no services (control panel -> services) are running as the user either. Check each service to see how it logs into the system.
