Get a floppy and save your current settings to it using Desktop Themes via the control panel. Note that this will not save your current screen resolution/color-depth settings but that's easy enought to fix by right-clicking on the desktop going to settings and resetting to the desired resolution and color-depth. Also as a side note, I don't have access to a w98 machine to check this now and I can't remember if W98 bundles the background pic or any customized icon settings into the theme.

A quick shareware search netted the following prospects for you to try if the default windows tool is inadequate for your needs.

Anyway, themes are definatly what you're looking at here.HIH

I didn't mention icons (Desktop folder), because icons reference applications; which may or may not be installed on the new system.

In your C:\Windows directory is a folder named "desktop" which contains all of your icons. As mentioned above, your screen seetings will probably have to be reset manually as it is a fresh install and the video card will have to be reinstalled.
Good luck!

One special way can work:
But you must have the same hardware and software configuration.

If this is OK; then
start-->run-->Regedit-->export the reg file.
Then copy this file to a CD or the target computer through network.

In the target computer:
1) start-->run-->Regedit-->export the reg file (the current setting); if anything is not working then you can import that one.

Then do the following:
2) start-->run-->Regedit-->import the reg file from the CD or ...

Then it will be the same in every aspects!!!

I did not say in my question that it was a different system. I read somewhere where one can export from the registry just the windows APPEARANCE items, but I forgot which keys would.

If what you want is clone a Win98 install to a new PC, you can use utilities such as Norton Ghost or Powerquest DriveCopy... Which copy everything form a PC to a new one... If the hardware is different, no problem. Win98 will load and then ask for the Windows98 CD to install the new hardware.... You now have an exact copy of your last PC! :)

If that's what u want!..
