Copying CDs on XP to be read on Win 98SE

By searcher41 ·
I am finding problems copying CDs using Windows XP (Home Edition) for use on Windows 98 SE. I am using Ahead Nero, and when I copy files, they transfer to the CD just fine - and I can read them on my computer but, when I put the new CD into a computer running Windows 98SE, I get an error message saying "Drive not ready", and I cannot access the copied CD. Help anyone?

If you are using CD-RW blanks, you may want to try CDR blanks. I have seen this behavior with CD-RW copies especially with the CD-RW cheaper blanks. Hope this helps.

Thank you - I have discovered that whichever CD-RW I use, nothing works, but using a plain old CD-R worked first time. Sorted. :-)

Is this any computer with W98?

What speed is the Cd drive on the W98 PC?

Some of the older drives (12X or slower) have trouble reading anything other than the true 650MB CD-Rs.

The laser pickup in the drive just cannot deal with the finer lines on a 700MB CD.

Almost forgot,
Cds are more readable across multiple drives if you;
1. Close the CD not just the session

2. Record as disk at once instead of track at once.
