Copying data from optical drive crashes the computer

by jksizzle . Updated 16 years, 6 months ago

I am running XP MCE SP3 and my maching runs pretty stable except when I copy data from the optical drive. I am not using a 3rd party software to transfer files, just the built in utility. I don’t get a BSOD, the screen just goes black and everything freezes. I have to do a hard reset to re-boot.

Oddly enough, I just replaced the drive with a new one and the problem remains so I don’t think it is the optical drives fault. It also happens when I transfer files to several different HDD’s.

I checked device manager and there aren’t any errors.

Here are my specs:
XP MCE 2005 SP3 32 Bit
ASUS M3N78-EM Mobo
AMD Athlon 7850 @ 2.8 GHz
3.33 GB DDR2 – 800 CL4 Crucial DRAM 2 x 2GB
LG CH08LS10 Blu-ray drive

I appreciate any help. My suspicion is that this is a RAM issue but I have tried each module separately and it still happens. I will be runnin memtest overnight to see if I get any errors. (edit: I ran memtest overnight without any errors)
