Copying photos from iPhone 11 to Windows 10 pc

What is the best way to copy large numbers of photos from my iPhone 11 to my Windows 10 pc?
I’ve connected the two using the lightning/usb cable and have tried both drag & drop and importing (via the Windows photo app) – but both methods fail miserably. Seems that the connection to the iPhone times out.
    Thanks, Owen

Windows 10 has the ability to use iCloud to wirelessly sync your photos as long as you’ve backed up the photos on your iPhone or iPad to iCloud. Here’s how to do it.

Launch the Microsoft Store from the Start menu, taskbar, or desktop.
Search for iCloud on the Microsoft Store.
Click Get. iCloud will now download to your PC.
Click Launch once the download is complete.
      Type your Apple ID.
      Type your password.
      Click Sign In.
Click the Options button next to Photos.
Click the box next to iCloud Photos so that a checkmark appears.
Click the box next to Upload new photos from my PC so that the checkmark disappears. You can set these options how you’d like, but this ensures you’re just getting the photos off your iPhone or iPad onto your PC.
      Click Done.
Click Apply. Any photos in your iCloud will now download to your PC.
Try This Method and see if this works..

        Thanks jackdanielsking2

I was hoping that I could just plug my iPhone into my WIN10 laptop and drag ‘n’ drop like the old days, but IOS no longers plays with WIN10 without timing out.

So, I have resorted to using iCloud, although not quite as per your suggestion. I’ve enabled iCloud storage on my iPhone 11 (after signing up to 50Gb storage) and have connected my laptop by browsing to icloud.com

        Thanks
