Copying user profiles

By _getz ·
I tried copying a user profile, logged in as a member of the local administrators group and am running into a problem giving a domain user-id access to the new profile. After I point the original profile name to the new profile name I select changeunder Permitted to Use but the screen does not let me change to a domain - only the local users are listed. Any suggestions as to what to try next would be great.

Thanks

I don't think you'll be able to set domain attributes (group membership, domain permissions, etc) from the workstation. I think you'd have to do that from the server.

we are on an NT domain with a few win2000 pro machines and mostly NT workstations. The process of copying a user profile works fine on the NT workstations but I ran into a problem with the win2000 machines only. I found a qbase article today that explained what was happening. The Q# is Q257489 Thanks for your replies.

What operating system are you using?
For system-policy files, the best tool I?ve come across is Tools4ever?s Policy Template Editor?a must-have utility for creating custom .adm policy template files that contain custom Registry settings (the files from which .pol system-policy files are created). You can use Policy Template Editor?s GUI to create per-machine or per-user policies?a much easier process than creating and editing the .adm files manually.
